Myron Nybo, Director of Maintenance

Myron Nybo sits across the table with a thoughtful expression on his face.

"I was here when the buildings were built," he says with a smile. I worked on interiors along with managing all of the building maintenance." I know every corner of every building."

Nybo is discussing his career at Heritage of Edina, an Assisted Living facility for the elderly that had its start in 1960. "I come in at 5:30AM and I'm on call 24 hours/a day. It is such a pleasure to be here."

When I hire new people I make sure they understand the philosophy: "We are here for the residents. I encourage them to take an interest in their work and to be happy with the results of their efforts. If you see something that needs to be fixed, fix it."

Starting with a facility in Florida in 1960, Nybo worked on many of the facilities around the country that were then part of the Heritage of Edina nursing homes. During his extended tenure he has managed almost every aspect of the business, from the janitorial services and laundry to the kitchens. "Problem solving is what I do best," he states with conviction. Each morning with his early arrival he begins a review of all of the mechanical workings of the buildings to make certain everything is functioning appropriately. The first challenge of the day may start here; if not, he and his crew dig into the continuous activity that keeps the residents' homes' in beautiful condition.

"I take great pride in my work because I know it's for them," he says with heartfelt care in his voice. "I want to do things for the residents because the return I get from them is immeasurable."

Back in Tracey, MN as a child of 10 years, Myron had a friend named Dave who was 70 years old. "I would visit each day and Dave would allow me to work on projects with him. "That's where I got my connection. Even today in his spare time at his home east of Forest Lake, MN, he is involved with seniors in his hobbies. "I love to work with Draft horses, and many of the people who know about them are older than I am," he grins. In his group of friends who share this hobby, Nybo is by far the youngest. "Listen and learn from your elders," he shares. "They have experienced so much of life." The residents of Heritage have a special place in their hearts for Nybo, too.

Nybo feels fortunate to be in his position at Heritage. The owners have developed a deep sense of trust in their longtime employees, of whom there are many, and Nybo is no exception. They are a closely knit group of staff, who has spent their lives working together.

And if you visit Heritage of Edina you may run into another Nybo; Ryan Nybo. Now in his sixth year at Heritage Myron's son Ryan is "learning the ropes" to continue the long tradition of excellent service to residents at Heritage of Edina.
